Why integrate Google Analytics 4 with Website Builder?

Once integrated, Google Analytics 4 can improve the tracking and reporting of your property's website — from its traffic, funnels and conversion rates, to its return on investment (ROI) in marketing.

And because the Website builder supports source attribution modelling with its Google Analytics 4 integration, properties can easily identify their most successful marketing campaigns and special offers, and in the process, hone their strategies.

Create a Google Analytics 4 property and Google Tag

  1. In Google Analytics 4, click on Admin.

  2. Click on Create Property, then enter the name of your property or website.

  3. Select your timezone and currency.

  4. Click on Show advanced options, then enable the Create a Universal Analytics property toggle.

  5. Enter your website’s URL, then select Create a Universal Analytics property only.

  6. Click on Next.

  7. Under Business information, complete the following fields according to your property’s circumstances:

    1. Industry category — select, for example, Travel.

    2. Business Size — select one of the following.

      1. Small — 1 to 10 employees.

      2. Medium — 11 to 100 employees.

      3. Large — 101 to 500 employees.

      4. Very Large — 501+ employees.

    3. How do you intend to use Google Analytics with your business? — tick any of the following options:

      1. Measure customer engagement with my site or app (recommended)

      2. Optimise my site or app experience

      3. Measure data across multiple devices or platforms

      4. Optimise my advertising cost

      5. Increase my conversions (recommended)

      6. Measure content monetisation

      7. Analyse my online sales

      8. Measure app instals

      9. Measure lead generation

      10. Other

  8. Click on Create — your property will be added to Google Analytics 4. A page with instructions on how to add the Google Tag to your website will open.

  9. Navigate to the Install Manually tab to find your Google Tag.

Integrate Google Analytics 4 with Website Builder

  1. Copy and/or take note of the Google Tag found in the Install Manually tab.

  2. Log in to Website Builder > go to Advanced Settings.

  3. Navigate to the Third-party-widget page, then enter the Google Tag in the text box. (If you have other widgets already installed in this text box, be careful not to overwrite any existing code when you add the Google tag.)

  4. Click on Save.

  5. Click on Publish changes (green button) in the bottom right — this will update Website Builder with the new changes.

Migrate to Google Analytics 4

  1. Log in to Google Analytics 4 > go to All Accounts > click on your account name — this will select the new Google Analytics 4 property you created earlier.

  2. Go to the Migrating from Universal Analytics screen, then select Yes.

  3. Open the Which Property drop-down menu, then select your Universal Google Analytics property.

  4. Click on Save.

Test the integration between Google Analytics 4 and Website builder

As soon as you have migrated to Google Analytics 4, as explained above, your Google Analytics 4 dashboard will display the following message: ‘No data received from your website yet’. We recommend waiting up to 60 minutes for your changes to be published in Website Builder, then testing the integration.

  1. Open your public website (that is, the website that your customers and guests will use, for example, ‘www.yourhotel.com’), and open several pages to generate some traffic.

  2. Log in to your Google Analytics 4 account, select your property > and go to Home to view your reporting dashboard — if the integration is functioning correctly, you should see a ‘Your website's data collection is active’ message, and your traffic will be reported there.

Note:

  • If you do not see any traffic reported on your Google Analytics 4 dashboard, we recommend repeating all of the steps in this article.

  • If the integration still does not work after repeating the above steps, we recommend using the following resources:

    • Visit the Google Analytics 4 online knowledge base.

    • Contact one of our expert digital marketing partners.
