Add a channel rate override
Updated over a year ago

Channel rate overrides can be used when you need a certain rate to show a different price for a specific channel and date range.

💡 To be able to add an override on a channel rate, the rate must be derived.

What is a channel rate override?

Overriding a rate allows you to modify the price of an already derived rate for a specific channel rate and time period.

⚠️ You can override a channel rate, but not a rate plan.

When do I need to add an override?

Derived rates are automatically adjusted based on the rates they derived from. You cannot manually change the price of a derived rate.

However, you might want to modify the derivation for certain dates. Your channel manager allows you to set a new rule (called override) that ignores the main derivation, so you can set a different one for specific dates.

➕ See the example below:

  • Suppose you have a single room bed and breakfast room rate.

  • You have mapped this room rate to Channel A, so you have now a channel rate: single room bed and breakfast - Channel A.

  • Your channel rate is configured to keep the same price as your room rate. However, there is an important event in town next weekend and you know you can raise your prices to cover the high demand. You want to increase the prices for your connected channels but not for your direct booking engine (to make it more attractive and get direct bookings).

    • In this case, a derivation wouldn’t work because the derivation will be applied for all future dates, not just the following weekend.

    • You can add an override for just next weekend to increase by 10% the price of your single room bed and breakfast - Channel A channel rate over the single room bed and breakfast room rate to be more expensive on Channel A:

How do I override a channel rate for a specific date range?

To add or change a rate override for an existing channel rate:

  1. Go to My apps > Channel manager.

  2. Go to the Channels tab.

  3. Click on the channel’s name for which you want to add/change a rate override.

  4. Click on the specific channel rate (third column).

  5. Click on Configure from the drop-down menu.

  6. A pop-up window will open on the Channel settings tab. Go to the Rate config tab.

  7. Click on Add rate override at the bottom right of the window and complete the following fields:

    • From date and To date : set the date range for the override.

    • Override by : select a type of adjustment for the override (Amount, Percent, or a combination of both).

    • Select Increase or Decrease , then set an adjustment value in the empty field right beside.

  8. Press Save.

💡 Your channel rates will be adjusted with the override value for the set time period. The price changes are also reflected in the Inventory page of your channel manager.

⚠️ If your channel rate is set to Manually input daily rates, you will have to select Derive rates from [name of the room rate] from the drop-down menu and derive the channel rate before you can add an override.
