Setting up room types
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I create room types?
Room types control the availability/inventory of the rate plans connected to your channels and your direct booking engine. You need to create room types to be able to get bookings.
You can choose multiple accommodation types: beds, apartments, caravans, cottages, villas, sites, even houseboats! All are considered room types in the system, despite them not offering conventional rooms.
What is a rack rate?
Your rack rate is the highest season rate you charge for a room. Your inventory defaults to this rate until you update your daily prices.
What's the difference between an availability threshold and minimum availability threshold?
Your Availability threshold is the lowest number of rooms you want to be left available before it triggers an automatic closure of channels and your direct booking engine, applying Close channels and Close website in your Inventory, which prevents further bookings from being made for the affected date.
A Minimum availability threshold is the minimum number of available rooms you would like to have left available for a notification e-mail to be triggered to let you know you have only this amount of rooms available for a particular date.
Is it a problem if my rooms and rates are set up differently on my Online Travel Agents/channels?
Your room and rate structure must be consistent in order for inventory updates to be pushed to your channels and reservations to be delivered to your Calendar.
What's the difference between included occupancy and maximum occupancy?
Maximum occupancy refers to the number of guests that can be accommodated and allowed to stay in a room. Included occupancy refers to the number of guests that are included in the daily price.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a rate plan?
A rate plan represents one of the ways you sell your rooms. Each rate plan can feature unique terms of sale and inclusions such as non-refundable, breakfast included, or a package deal.
Does creating a rate plan in Little Hotelier automatically creates a rate plan in my channels’ extranets?
No, you will have to create all your room types and rate plans both in Little Hotelier and in your channels’ extranets. Once the setup process is done and the rates are mapped, Little Hotelier will start the automatic updates.
What is a release period?
A release period is the number of days in advance of the check-in date a rate plan must be booked. A release period of 14 days means a rate plan is only bookable 14 days in advance of the check-in date and cannot be booked within that time.
Can I derive my rate plans?
Yes, you can derive rate plans from a room type's standard rate plan. Your derived rate can be adjusted higher or lower than the standard rate plan.
What are the extra occupancy fees?
You can change extra occupancy fees for each rate plan if you want to charge for rooms based on occupancy. For guests making a reservation on your direct booking engine, it will calculate the final cost according to the number of adults, children, and infants staying the room.
