Why should I create a room type?

Room types control the availability/inventory of any associated rate plans, this availability/inventory then syncs with all of your connected channels. Room type configuration is important as it has information that will be updated and advertised on some channels and in your direct booking engine.

Examples of room types

You can segment your room types by the type of bed and pricing they have and/or by the occupancy and pricing, or by considering the view. Here are some common examples:

  • Double room (or double room with sea view, double room with private bathroom) – Usually fits two guests with either two single beds or one queen/king/super king bed.

  • Triple room (or triple room with mountain view, triple room with shared bathroom) – Usually fits three guests with the following bed configuration:

    • Three single beds.

    • A queen/king/super king bed and a single bed.

    • Two queen/king/super king beds.

  • Family room (or family room with swimming pool view, family room with two private bathrooms) – Usually fits four guests with the following bed configuration:

    • A queen/king/super king bed and two single beds.

    • A queen/king/super king bed and a bunk bed.

    • Two queen/king/super king beds.

How do I set up translations for my room type?

Translations are essential as they facilitate bookings from guests worldwide, and help make your guests feel welcome. Once you have created and saved your room type in your base language, you can change the language and add in your translated text.

  • Go to Setup > Property & Room Settings > Add & Edit Rooms > change the language on the top left on the Available translations field drop-down menu.

  • Manually write/enter translations for all the text fields of your additional language.

  • Don’t forget to Save any changes.

  • Repeat for each additional language.

What if I advertise a different accommodation type other than a room?

Whether you have a hostel, camping site, touristic apartment building, or even a cottage resort, these are all considered room types, despite not offering conventional rooms. You can advertise multiple accommodation types, including beds, apartments, caravans, cottages, villas, camping sites, and even houseboats!

I want to sell my room at a different price based on the number of guests booking the room

Ensure you set up your Occupancies and the Default extra adult/child/infant rates, as they interact to define the final price depending on the number of guests booking the room.

➕ For example, if you usually sell the room for 100, and you set Included occupants to 2, Maximum occupants to 4 and all Extra adults/children/infants values to 20, the room could be sold in one of these 4 ways:

  • A customer books the room for just 1 guest and pays 100 because it includes the Included occupants.

  • A customer books the room for 2 guests, and they still pay 100 because it is equal to the Included occupants.

  • A customer books the room for 3 guests, and they pay 120 because the first 2 guests are included, but the third needs to pay the extra, which was set to 20.

  • A customer books the room for 4 guests, and they pay 140 because the first 2 guests are included, but the third and fourth need to both pay the extra, which was set to 20, for a total additional price of 40.

⚠️ Occupancy settings only affect your direct booking engine. If you need to change this for the channels, you will need to change this either in the mapping (if available on the integration for the channel) or in each channel’s extranet.
