Create, edit or delete room types in Front Desk

Updated yesterday

Overview of room types

A room type represents an accommodation option available to your guests. Each room type has its own occupancy, bed configuration, features, descriptions, extras, and photos.

Room type availability controls all associated room rates in the Inventory grid.

💡 Hostels and dorms that sell individual beds should set up each bed as a room type. This allows you to sell beds individually on your booking engine.

Create a room type

To create a room type:

  1. Log into Little Hotelier on your Desktop (not mobile) > My Apps > Front Desk.

  2. Go to Setup > Property & Room Settings > Rooms & Rates > Create Room Type

  3. Fill in the mandatory fields in the General section

  4. Edit your Room Type details by adding a description, bed type configuration, room size, bathroom quantity, room view, features, photos and extras

  5. Click Create to save changes.

💡 A standard room rate is automatically assigned when you create a room type.

⚠️ Adding a room type in Front Desk does not automatically sync it to your connected channels. Manual setup is required on each channel account.

All room types and room rates created in Front Desk will automatically sync to your Channel Manager. Allow at least 10 minutes for new updates to sync. If changes are not syncing after 10 minutes, complete a Flush.

Edit room types

You may need to edit a room type to:

  • Change the name or category

  • Edit availability thresholds, or default minimum or maximum stay settings

  • Modify rate or occupancy settings

  • Edit general room type information

Note that changes to a room type only affect new bookings.

To edit a room type:

  1. Go to Front Desk > Setup > Property & Room Settings > Rooms & Rates > find the Room Type > click Edit

  2. Update the fields or sections in each tab

  3. Save changes.

  4. Remember any changes to the rack rate need to be updated via Front Desk > Inventory

Note:

  • Changing a room type's rack rate does not automatically update the inventory rates for that room type or any linked room rate for existing dates. To update rates already on the calendar, first amend the rack rate, then go to Front Desk > Inventory and perform a Bulk Update to apply the new pricing to the relevant dates.

Add rooms to a room type

Think of Room Types as categories, and rooms as the actual spaces. If you have 6 double rooms, add 6 rooms to the Double Room type. This creates availability in your Calendar to add reservations.

To add rooms:

  1. Log into Little Hotelier on your Desktop (not mobile) > Front Desk.

  2. Go to Setup > Property & Room Settings > Rooms & Rates

  3. Find the Room Type > click Edit > click on the Rooms tab

  4. Select the number of rooms

  5. Rename your rooms eg; Blue room or Room 4

  6. Click Save

To manage rooms:

  • Drag and drop to reorder rooms on the Calendar

  • To delete a room, hover over it and click the red bin on the right

⚠️ Deleting a room with reservations will unassign those reservations. Reallocate or adjust them before removing the room.

Delete a room type

Deleting a Room Type is permanent!

Here's what happens when you delete a Room Type:

  • It's gone for good, along with all its Room Rates

  • Connections to channels are automatically unmapped

To delete a Room Type

  1. Go to Front Desk > Setup.

  2. Go to Property & Room Settings > Rooms & Rates.

  3. Find the Room Type > click Edit.

  4. On the General tab, scroll down and click Delete > Confirm the deletion

Before you delete:

Deleting a room type in Front Desk will not delete it on connected channels.

  • Delete room rates from your channels first, then delete from Front Desk.

  • If a guest books a deleted rate on a channel, you will need to create the reservation manually.

Room types with active reservations

You cannot delete a room type that has active reservations. Before deleting, apply room closures and stop sells to prevent new bookings, then wait until the last reservation checks out.

⚠️ Do not move reservations to another room type just to free up a deletion. This risks overbooking and you may miss modifications or cancellations on the moved reservations.
